A Message to Start the Week

Dear parents,

We are starting the fourth week of online learning. Most students work very well independently, however, there are still some who need support and constant encouragement.

Here are two suggestions for the latter to track and organise themselves:

  • Students should create a list of five things they should do every day and tick each of them as they finish them.
  • You should make a poster of healthy habits and track which of them each member of your family follows.

Although I am aware that some of you do not have a garden or a balcony, I hope you are able to go out and get some fresh air and sunshine, especially as there will be very sunny and warm weather this week.

One of our parents suggested that your child/ren try to find and identify the largest number of flowers, birds, insects, trees, …  (on your balcony, in your garden, park, meadow, forest).

When you go out, think of safety and follow all preventive measures. Avoid crowded places and socialising with people who are not members of your family. Keep a safe distance.

Let’s hope that the warm sun will destroy the virus quickly.

Kind regards,

MAKING POETRY HAPPEN

As a response to a book they are reading in the Language and Literature classroom, grade 8 students have portrayed the relationships between the main characters of The Kite Runner through character poems. Enjoy their masterpieces.

4M – Challenge of Inquiry

Today, the 4M Students students had a collapsed day dedicated to scientific methods. The pupils conducted research on the areas of Light and shadow, Static electricity, Magnetism and Temperature. The challenge was to write a hypothesis, conduct experiments, observe, collect and interpret data, which they then used for writing their final conclusions.

1M – Stories & Fairy Tales

On Tuesday, the 1M students had a collapsed day. Their focus was on various stories and fairy tales and their similarities and differences. The first graders love stories, however, for this task they had to become real inquirers, being as knowledgeable as they are in school.

A Message for the Weekend

Dear parents,

Last week, we introduced Zoom video conferences in the PYP because the groups had already been established by parents in some classes during the first week of online learning. As Zoom is now facing huge privacy and security problems, for safety reasons, we will stop using it and move to Microsoft Teams, which ensures more protection.

I hope this change will not cause additional stress and tension. We want to ensure to continue to give more quality support to students via video conferencing in a safe virtual environment.

Some suggestions for offline activities this weekend:

Enjoy the weekend in good spirits and be cheerful.

Kind regards,

Irena Steblaj
