Kindergarten Cultural Day – Ljubljana Puppet Theatre

Our Kindergarten students visited the Ljubljana puppet theatre on Friday 3 March.
The travelling to and from the theatre was as interesting as the show itself. Experiences like taking a public bus, walking through the city centre and observing a truck with a crane cage, along with strolling through Ljubljana market and seeing an ice skating rink were all part of the trip.
We know the children enjoyed themselves during the puppet show as well, as we could hear a lot of laughing and positive comments during the performance.

MYP Sports Day – Krvavec

As is the case every year, the time had come again for the annual MYP Winter Sports Day, this year being split between Krvavec, for the skiers and snowboarders, and Jezersko, for those who decided to try other seasonal activities. The Krvavec crew ascended the freshly snow swept mountain aboard the gondola to find a blanket of moderate fog. The visibility remained fair though, as the students were eager to immerse themselves in the fresh snowfall and showcase their piste prowess. Many ascents were made on the chair lifts, the students keen to make the most of the time they had deftly descending the spacious well-groomed Krvavec runs, with some also flexing their freestyle frolics in the snowpark.

MYP Sports Day – Jezersko

MYP students enjoyed the fresh snow today at their winter sports day. Half of the students went skiing at Krvavec while the other half went to Jezersko. The team there prepared three stations: cross-country skiing, sledding and snowshoeing and the students, being balanced, tested their skills on all three. And on top of everything, they had an impromptu snowball fight on their way back to the bus. Everyone was exercising and having a lot of fun doing it.

3, 4 & 5M Science Day – Slovenian Beekeepers’ Association

On 28 February, the students from 3, 4 and 5M entered the world of bees, upon traveling to Brdo, in the Lukovica area, where the Slovenian Beekeepers’ Association is situated. The multi tiered itinerary consisted of, firstly, a presentation about how bees produce honey, which produced a very enthusiastic and lively question and answer session. Then the students donned beekeeping hats and visited the association’s apiarys, being warned to be quiet, as during the winter months the bees sleep. On the menu next was pollen tasting, along with a rich selection of five different types of honey. Block stamp making completed the day’s activities, the pupils designing their own mementos to remind them of their time learning about bees and honey.

PYP Winter Sports Day

The 23 February saw the annual Winter PYP Sports Day return. Bohinj and Pokljuka were the destinations this year as the Kindergarten, 1, 2 and 3M headed to the latter, while 4 and 5M were treated with the former. The older students alternated between some classic winter sledging fun, and donning the thinner types of skis for some cross country skiing action. Meanwhile, over in Pokljuka, the younger pupils were also sledging, and trying some other winter pursuits: snowshoeing and mono skiing.

Davinci’s Bridge

At design in 6m we started a new unit about constructions and students were building “Davinci’s Bridge”. These are some of their masterpieces.

Pust

On Tuesday (Pustni torek) instead of children, the school was full of animals, princesses, robots, and strange creatures from various games, movies, and TV shows.

There were so many interesting costumes, so many creative masks, so many happy faces, …
Therefore, we decided to invite the younger half of the school to the dome, where we threw a dance party.

We had a lot of fun dancing and singing and, hopefully, we managed to scare this year’s winter away.

ZMAJEV KARNEVAL

Last Saturday, February 18th, some of our students attended the Dragon Carnival (Zmajev karneval) in Ljubljana city centre. They presented our school adorning the group mask of Snow White and the dwarfs.

Congratulations to all of the students for their attendance and a lovely performance at the Carnival!

Talent Show

As part of his Service as Action project, one of our students, Andras from 7M, successfully organised a talent show. Students from both departments were able to apply and join the auditions. The final event took place on 25 January, where a number of students showed off their talents, which included singing, playing instruments, karate, breakdancing and drama. The audience was thrilled and supportive and everyone involved had a lot of fun. Congratulations to all the winners and participants and kudos to the organiser and his mentor for preparing such an enjoyable event.

Visit to the Home for the Elderly

The 6M students took a visit to the Home for the Elderly in Bežigrad once more. The students again showed that they were excellent communicators, coming prepared with various board games, explaining the instructions and competing in the games with the residents. Both the students and the residents had fun and enjoyed each other’s company.

Prešeren Day

Prešeren Day is a Slovenian cultural holiday on 8 February. In Slovenia, the day was established to mark the anniversary of the death of the Slovenian national poet, who died on 8 February, 1849. The day is a celebration of Slovenian culture and came into being in 1945. It became a bank holiday in 1991. France Prešeren is a romantic Slovenian poet whose poems have been translated into many languages. After his death, Prešeren became the leading name of the Slovenian literary cannon. France Prešeren also wrote the national anthem of Slovenia along with Povodni mož, A Wreath of Sonnets, A Farewelll to my Youth, and O Vrba.

What will you do to celebrate this cultural holiday?

PYP Cultural Day – The Opera

On Friday, 27 January 2023, the PYP students came to school all dressed up and ready for the opera! They started the cultural day with activities through which they learned how an opera is realised, from the musical work to a performance, getting to know the characters of the story and what the message is, and making posters that convince people to go see the opera. Finally, we took the short journey by bus to Cankarjev dom, where the students showed their concert etiquette while enjoying the children’s opera Squirrel of a Special Kind by the young Slovenian composer Iztok Kocen, based on a story by a the renowned Slovenian author Svetlana Makarovič. Even if we are not good at something, we have to try everything to find the things we are good at. And while doing so, never forget to show kindness to those who might not have the same skills as we do.

6M Field Trip – Day 5

We reached the last day, and the time flew by so fast in the sun and on the snow. While skiing skills were formed and improved, social bonds were forged and strengthened proving sport is a great way to form new friendships. Mission accomplished.

6M Field Trip – Day 4 & 5

On the fourth day we were again skiing through the day, until our feet couldn’t bare it any longer. It was a bit cloudy and windy here, yet the winter snow fairy still held on here in KG. All the students have now learned how to use the ski lifts and go down the slopes independently. Congratulations to all! In the evening we soothed our feet by line dancing at the disco!!! What a party. 🙂

See you today in the afternoon, around 15.30 – 16.00!

Hello!

Today we enjoyed perfect winter weather, white slopes, blue sky and winter sun. There were a lot of people on the slopes, but we have already learned enough to join them. We had a special guest today. Mr Klemen visited us and Mr Mitja joined the team.

We are planning an evening visit in the centre of Kranjska Gora.

See you soon!
