A Message for the Weekend

Dear Parents,

It is inspiring to see the spirit of our students who dedicate a lot of time and effort to online learning. Our students and teachers are unified in their commitment to continuing the school year to one of a high quality standard, with their creativity, relevant work and active participation.

We have already introduced video conferencing in the MYP this week, next week we will introduce video conferencing in the PYP too via zoom, first for the homeroom lessons, followed by sessions on Thursday and Friday from 09:00 am to 10:00 am, when the PYP homeroom teachers will be available for any extra explanation or questions about school work.

The second week of isolation is coming to an end, up until now I have not received any news about anybody becoming infected or ill in our school community. Parents, thank you for your commitment to keeping your families and our community safe and healthy.

Some ideas for indoor activities during the weekend:

  • Have a tea party (with poetry reading)
  • Draw or paint the view from your window
  • Play card and board games
  • Make a family tree
  • Plan a 7 Day Self Care Challenge
  • Start a hand drawn collection of ornaments

Stay home! Have a safe and relaxing weekend!

A Message for Parents

Dear parents,

Our school has decided not to charge any tuition fees for the Kindergarten and Afternoon Programme from 16 March until we open our school again, however, we will continue offering the online programme for both, the Kindergarten and the AP programmes.

I would like to thank many parents for their suggestions and ideas on how to improve the online learning process. To make our programme easier, more interesting and various, collapsed days online will be introduced, offering less streamlined and demanding activities. Some video conferences have already been held. We are also organising extra support for students who have organisational problems, or cannot cope with the academic part of the curriculum.

Although no news is better than bad news, I would like to remind you that you must inform us if you become infected by highly transmissible and dangerous illnesses, as we have an obligation to inform our school community about this.

Fortunately, I have not received any information about anybody from our whole school community becoming infected and ill. I hope it stays this way!

Some ideas for creative non-screen activities with your children:

  • Start a nature journal
  • Make a pretend cooking show
  • Create natural paints from spices or mud and create art masterpieces with them
  • Look through old family photos and share stories about them
  • Make homemade cards
  • Go on a (insect, toy, object) hunt
  • Make playdough (add spices for colour and smell)
  • Draw an outline of each family member and decorate them.
  • Build a fairy garden, a farm, a zoo with recycled and natural materials and toys
  • Build a doll’s house from recycled boxes

I wish you a safe and pleasant day!

Kind regards,

Irena Steblaj

Message for Parents

Dear parents,

Hopefully you and your children are coping well with life in isolation. I have been in contact with our colleagues and friends from Matija Gubca International School in Zagreb. Our teachers and the MYP students have cooperated several times with their students in many activities in recent years. In the last school year they visited The Tesla Museum in Zagreb together. They are fine, but very scared, following last Sunday’s earthquakes, which could cause an even bigger risk of infection.

Fortunately, I have not received any reports about anybody becoming infected or ill in our school community up until now.

The Making Thinking Visible Chart (Project Zero, Harvard University) may help you to support your child’s online learning.
Keep safe!

Best wishes,

Irena Steblaj
