Even though it was raining, we managed to hike to “Nebesa” (Heaven). During the day we were working on the PYP Exhibition and tried ourselves at archery. We finished our day with some board and social games.

International Day – Šobec

We had  a wonderful and fun day at Šobec. Thank you to the PTA members, to parents, who brought food, and to students and  teachers for the programme and activities. Our school hosted the 3rd International Schools of Ljubljana 24 Game competition. The schools participating were The British International School of Ljubljana, Ecole Francais and Danila Kumar International School.

Trios run

Ljubljana, 5 May 2018

Nine groups of students (3 km run) and three groups of teachers (12 km run) took part in the traditional “RUN OF TRIOS” in the positive, sports and supportive environment of our capital city.   Sunny weather and the beautiful, orderly and green environment of Ljubljana, gave the activity, which emphasized collaboration, help and comradeship, excellent conditions and an elegant backdrop.

All our students and teachers successfully completed this challenge. Our teachers were very comfortable in T-shirts sponsored by The Moro foundation.

PYP & MYP Sports Day – Pot ob Žici

On Friday 4th May, the PYP & MYP had a hiking day, along with all schools in Ljubljana, along the Pot ob Žici – the path along the wire, It is the Path of Remembrance and Comradeship (which can also be called a post-war reminder to the times when Ljubljana was surrounded by barbed wire). The students enjoyed the elements as they walked on the path to the south of Ljubljana, adorned with trees and running by the Ljubjanica river, amongst rain, thunder, lightening and sun. K1 & 2 – Pot ob Žici

Kindergarten students enjoyed the hiking Ob žici on Thursday to Gramozna jama. They all got diplomas for joining in this event.

1M – Book Writers

This April first graders transformed into book writers. They wrote their own fairy tales during our regular English lessons and on April 26th they created their books. A lot of hard work payed off and students were really proud of themselves.

4M Cultural Day – Church Visit

On Tuesday, 24th April, 4M had a cultural day. During the day, the students were able to observe the difference in architectural structure between various churches of different religions within Christianity. They also were told the legends of the saints within these churches, and how these legends are connected to their home of Ljubljana. The cultural day was associated with their unit on religions, as they were able to see various places of worship, and experience the culture of those living around them.

COMMUNITY- AND RESEARCH PROJECT PRESENTATIONS – Part 2

On Tuesday, 24th April, the second part of the Community and Research Project Presentations took place. The presentations covered a variety of subjects: from technology and cryptocurrencies to space, homelessness, and the division of Korea, amongst others. The students delivered interesting and engaging presentations, showing a strong command of knowledge of their chosen topics. The audience also posed challenging and inquisitive questions for each presenter. read more…

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AT MATIJA GUBEC INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

The success of effective educational work is hidden not only in the tight cooperation between the students, parents and teachers of our school, but also in sharing experience with teachers from different school communities.

On Friday and Saturday, 24 Danila Kumar teachers visited Matija Gubec International School in Zagreb where they took part in workshop sessions on differentiation. The sessions were run by Ms Irena Šteblaj, the Head of our International programme who is also a certified IBEN trainer for the PYP programme. The workshops were very enjoyable, engaging and provided lots of new opportunities for the cooperation between the two schools.

Trip to Graz

Students from 8M, and 9th grade national students who learn German, took a day trip to Graz and a sweet journey to the chocolate factory of Zotter. The weather was lovely and the day was really enjoyable!

6M Science Day – Botanical Gardens


On Thursday, 19th April, the pupils of 6M visited the Botanical Gardens in Ljubljana. The day was ripe for a stroll around the gardens in the spring sunshine. We were met by our guide, who then proceeded to awaken the gardens for us through her knowledge and enthusiasm. The tour revealed the delights and dangers of various plants, flowers and trees including the oldest tree in the Botanical Gardens, a Linden tree, the national tree of Slovenia, a selection of edible plants and their poisonous lookalikes, as well as carnivorous plants. The day was rounded off with a workshop about how various organisms connect through food chains and food webs. 6M and their teachers would like to say thank you to the guide for the insightful and educational day.   read more…

“ENCI BENCI KATALENCI”


Yesterday, there was a wonderful cultural musical theatre “Enci benci Katalenci” performed by Katalena, at Cankarjev dom, for our school community. The group managed to merge various idioms of popular music with the legacies of Slovenian folklore culture. The band was full of energy and their adrenaline rushed from the stage into the audience. Without holding back, we can say that we all had an excellent time.

FOR A BETTER WORLD (COMMUNITY PROJECT ACTION)

Grade 8 students, Ivana and Noemi, explored the question: How are moral values important for our descendants and us? As part of their Community project. They connected with the association Društvo za boljši svet Vilinski ključ, which encourages tolerance and compassion in people. It is led by Mrs Alenka Kos, who helps the disabled by providing recreational and sports activities for them to help improve their physical activity and reduce the possibility of subsequent chronic disease. Her activities promote social inclusion and equal opportunities for all.

CHALLENGE OF INQUIRY – K2, 1M, 2M STUDENTS


Our first successful day of the Challenge of Inquiry is over. In the first two lessons students presented their research work to their parents. After snack, students from grades 3, 4 and 5 came to the auditorium and listened to the interesting presentations. COOKING COMPETITION “KUHNAPATO”

Four students from 3m, 5m and 6m took part in the cooking competition: Kuhnapato on Wednesday, 11th April in Citypark, BTC Ljubljana, outside the Interspar supermarket. The students started cooking at 9.30 and at 12.00 there was a degustation of the competing dishes from the Ljubljana region schools for members of the public. The students prepared a healthy and local traditional stew: Saveljski lonec, their own recipe, and judging by the reaction from the diners it was an excellent dish! Well done!

1 – 5M Cultural Day, The Pandemonium show

On Monday, 9th April, students from 1 – 5M had a cultural day at Cankarjev Dom, Ljubljana in which they attended the Pandemonium show (Džumbus).

It is the story of a rattling boy who does not talk and invents a new means of sound communication to initiate contact with his community, by generating sound with a range of original instruments and sound-producing devices made from everyday objects.
