On 22nd September, as part of European Mobility Week, all grades from the international dept. and grade 3 classes from the national dept. took a walk to a local residential area, Mucherjeva street, and had a line dance lesson. The children danced with enthusiasm and gusto, having a great time in the process! Some of the teachers also found their dancing shoes. A great time was had by all! We would also like to thank the local community, who received us warmly and joined in the fun too!

After a short cultural programme prepared by the choir of grade 2 and 3 students of national programme, the cheerleaders from the international department and the parent-teacher choir “Na istem bregu”, our headmistress, Mrs. Mojca Mihelič and the mayor of Ljubljana, Mr. Zoran Janković addressed students, parents and teachers. The culmination of the event was the football match between Danila Kumar Football Academy players and our teachers and parents. On Thursday, 15th September, the students of grade 4 spent some time outside, reading under the trees. This was a nice way of encouraging reading for pleasure and an activity that we all liked. We had fun.
On Friday, 09.09.2016, our PYP students spent the school day exploring the idea behind the word “internationalism”. They investigated how they fit into the community and wider world, explored the world map and globe, read the book “If”…, and sang and danced.

Our social event was the first opportunity to use the new dome area for sports and other activities.
All the teachers of Danila Kumar International School were there, leading various activities. The parents and students who came had fun and enjoyed the activities. There were many new families present and we were very happy to get to know them a bit better. As Part of the school’s continual teacher development, several workshops were held in the weeks running up to the start of the new school year. Among them was a PYP workshop, which while reinforcing the values of the PYP, brought forth some new ideas. There were also workshops for the whole school about formative assessment, differentiation, academic honesty, violence and self harming, giving further insight into these topics and issues.
The 1st September means the 1st day of school. Ms Irena Šteblaj, the Head of the International dept. and Mrs Mojca Mihelič, the Head of the whole school welcomed all returning students and parents back to the school, as well the many new students who are joining the school this year. There was a very warm and vibrant atmosphere in the auditorium, which highlighted the mood of optimism and enthusiasm for the coming school year.

The school year 2016/17 will start on Thursday, 1 September 2016 with an opening ceremony for the PYP (kindergarten to grade 5) at 9.30 and for the MYP (grades 6 -8) at 10.00 in our auditorium. Afterwards, the students and their parents will be invited to their homerooms to get introductory instructions and information. All the activities will finish in approximately two hours.

On March 1, 2016 Danila Kumar School hosted the Regional Round of the prestigious World Scholar’s Cup competition for the second time. Students competed in six subject areas, connected with this year’s common theme Imperfect World. The best teams (seven from Danila Kumar School, that means 21 students) qualified for the next level of the competition – The Global Round. This year it took place in June in Thailand (Bangkok).
In the school year of 2015/2016 six students from the national and international departments of Danila Kumar Elementary School joined the Kiwanis project. They teamed up and shared ideas as well as experiences with six students from the International School of Carinthia. They spent the project week in Austria at the Wahaha resort. Ideas were exploding!
The aims of the project were to come up with a project plan designed by children for children. read more…

On Friday 27th May, Professor Mari Nordstrand from Trondheim University will give a presentation of Norway. The Presentation will take place in 6M’s English lesson: lesson 4.
On 21st March 2016, Mme Mukaetova and Charles Nodier from the French Cultural Institute organised a workshop about French food for MYP students who are learning French.
We would like to thank Mr and Mrs Higonet for providing so many French specialities from Leclerc (such as madeleines de Bretagne, macarons, galettes, caramels, different types of cheese, etc.) and making this workshop a true success. Our students loved it.
A big thank you also to our school cooks for preparing all the French snacks and lunch for the whole school on that day, and to Miss Keli and her young Chefs de cuisine for preparing a Quiche lorraine.
The Kangaroo Mathematics competition will be held on 17 March. The competition will be organized in school starting at:
- 11.00 for grades 1, 2 and 3 and will last 45 minutes
- 13.00 for grades 4 and 5 and will last 60 minutes
- 13.00 for grades 6 – 8 and will last 90 minutes
The Pangea European Mathematics competition will be held on 24 March. The testing will be organised in our school starting at 13.00, and will last 1 hour.
