Announcement Regarding the Start of the School Year*

Dear parents,

We would like to stress that only healthy students can attend school in the upcoming school year. Please take into account the following:

  1. In the last 14 days your child has not been in contact with anyone who has tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
  2. Your child has not been quarantined.
  3. The family doctor or an epidemiologist has not recommended self-isolating in the last 14 days.
  4. If your child starts exhibiting any signs or symptoms of the virus or anyone living in the same household tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, you are required to keep them at home.

If your child falls ill showing any signs/symptoms or anyone living in the same household as your child has tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, your child should stay at home and refrain from contact with others. If your child is ill, please contact your family doctor or a doctor-on-call. In case your child tests positive or has been in contact with someone who has tested positive you will receive information and instructions from the epidemiologist.

We recommend your child limits contact with the elderly (i.e. grandparents) and people with chronic illnesses or immune deficiency, since they are more prone to experience a more severe development of the disease.

Basic COVID-19

Infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus can cause a coronavirus disease 2019 also known as COVID-19. The incubation period (time between the infection and the disease outbreak) can be up to 14 days, 6 days on average. The disease is characterised by signs/symptoms affecting the respiratory system, fatigue, a cold, fever and in more severe cases shortness of breath or difficulties breathing. Children are less likely to develop a severe case, which is more likely for the elderly (especially people older than 60 years of age) and people with chronic illnesses, such as cardiovascular diseases, lung diseases, and those affecting the liver, kidneys, diabetes, immune deficiency, etc. The more severe cases are accompanied by pneumonia. A microbiological test is needed to confirm an infection or to get a clean bill of health. SARS-CoV-2 is transmitted via droplets form the respiratory secretions. Infections can occur when social distance is less than 1.5 m. Surfaces contaminated with respiratory secretions can also be transmitters of the virus. It is imperative to implement strict measures of hygiene, washing hands, covering your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing. More information about the virus and its transmission can be found at the National Health Institute’s web page:

In case of your child’s inability to attend lessons due to the health limitations of SARS-CoV-2, consult your family doctor.
