Notification!

Dear students and respected parents,

The Slovenian government has decided to prolong the Autumn Break for one week. Hence, the school will be closed until November 8, 2020. During the next week, our government will decide what will follow. As soon as I receive more information, I will notify you.

I urge you to follow the measures and recommendations of the medical profession so that we can return to our normal routine as soon as possible.

I wish everyone a happy holiday season and a pleasant extended vacation, even without socializing. Let’s act responsibly and stay healthy!

5M Halloween Party

On Thursday, October 22, 5M celebrated Halloween. Despite it being held during ‘tricky times’, and unusual circumstances, it was a great success.

Our students had lots of fun with decorating pumpkins, and the muffin icing activity went really well. The students remarked that the muffins were really delicious!

The time passed quickly and some of the Halloween activities were extended into the Afternoon programme. In the end, each student received a treat bag to take home!
All in all, it was a really enjoyable, fun day!

Mistress’ response to Sonnet 130

After Shakespeare’s mistress read Sonnet 130 which he wrote for her, she was justifiably upset. The following are some of her responses. We recommend the reading if you are up for a laugh.

Halloween Party in the Kindergarten

3M Cultural Day – Conflicts

On October 9th, 3M had a collapsed day. They had an escape room challenge. First, they listened to a story about some friends who went into a tree house portal and the tree house brought them to the world of conflicts. Their task was to solve some puzzles and find conflict resolutions to get back to Earth. At the end of the day, they also did some role-plays. It was a fun day!

Online Learning

Dear parents,

The Ministry of Education, Science and Sport informed us that as from Monday or until further notice, the MYP students will start with online learning. As we anticipated, this was bound to happen and our MYP community (students included) are completely ready for the challenge ahead of us. The MYP teachers will upload their lessons to MS Teams on a daily basis. They will also have up to three live lessons per day following these patterns:

  • odd weeks lessons 1, 3 and 5;
  • even weeks lessons 2, 4 and 6.

Students should be responsible and do their work regularly. The online learning that the students will do at home will be recognised in the same way as their presence and learning in school.

Those who do not finish the assignments will have to do extra lessons when regular lessons recommence. We will keep you informed about all the latest developments.

Best wishes,

Plenary Lessons in September

We, the MYP students had our first plenary lesson of this school year, on the 2nd September 2020, during which we discussed the new school guidelines in our classes. Some of the guidelines we discussed were safety distance (1.5m), masks in hallways and walking on the right. During our second plenary lesson, we continued with the new guidelines and discussed online learning. We talked about using Microsoft Teams and covered the dos and don’ts of online learning. Each class then made either a poster or a video about the topic. The following week, we continued by finishing what we had already started by looking at the posters and videos from other classes. We continued by discussing school before and after the Covid-19 situation. The classes split into groups to make posters comparing school routines before and after Covid-19. The next plenary session came and we participated in the European mobility week by dancing in our classes. We first watched two videos about European mobility week and the importance of exercise and keeping the air clean. After that, we watched a video made by Kazina dance school and then followed along and danced tthe choreography

Notice Regarding the School Kitchen

Dear Parents,

It has been brought to my knowledge that we have a reported case of Covid-19 infection in our school kitchen. Therefore, I would like to inform you that the kitchen will be closed from tomorrow on until further notice. Since we have been taking all the safety measures required the students were not affected.
We will still provide snack during the main break for the students. Instead of lunch, the students will receive an additional, more nutritious warm snack. The students will take lunch at 12:00 and eat it in their classrooms.
Breakfast and afternoon snack is cancelled until further notice.

Thank you for your understanding.

5M Science Day – The Solar System

Grade 5 students had a science day on October 7, 2020. Students had workshops organized in school as part of their work in the current Unit of Inquiry. In the first two lessons they had to find out what a scale was and how to use it. They had to convert the radius of all the planets from kilometers into centimeters, according to different scales. In the next two lessons, they had to decide which scale was the best for their mini project, they cut out planets (using their scale) and put them in order from the Sun. The last part was the exhibition in the hallway, where they put the planets in order.

4M Science Day – Herbarium

On Friday, 25 September, we had a Collapsed Day in 4M where were made Herbariums with leaves. First, we collected and taped the leaves on blank paper then we had to find the name of the tree. We used an identification Tree key. We also recorded where we found the leaves and which date and type of tree it belonged to. Making a Herbarium was very enjoyable and fun.

The European Day of Languages

The European Day of Languages, celebrated on 26 September, aims to promote language learning and appreciation of the language diversity of the EU. This year, the PYP and the MYP students dedicated their plenary lessons to the languages spoken in the European union as well as, in our school. In addition, to competing in a quiz, they presented the story of The Little Red Riding Hood in the form of a comic and shared how we say some everyday expressions in their respective languages. Their work is displayed in the school hallway.

Kindergarten Science Day – Ljubljana Zoo

On Wednesday, September 23rd, the kindergarten students spent a lovely morning at the zoo.
We took a bus which brought us directly to the front of the zoo.
We saw a lot of animals and each of us had a favourite. Some liked lions, others preferred surikatas or sea lions. Luckily there was no rain and we had some time to play in the playground, as well. When we returned to school we were all really tired and hungry. After lunch each of us drew a nice picture about our visit.

Library Under the Treetops

The students from Kindergarten up to the 8th grade have all spent an English lesson outside reading books. Reading a book in nature may be no shiny, adventurous endeavour, however, its truly relaxing charm provides us with an authentic enjoyment. The students reported that reading outside is very relaxing, peaceful and that it is easier for them to focus. They also enjoyed spending a lesson outside in the fresh air. Their thoughts have been collected on a ‘reflection tree’ in the school hallway. The students and their parents can continue reading under the treetops in different locations in Ljubljana and Slovenia.
