PYP Sports Day – GIB Centre
On Wednesday 27th September, the PYP students were treated to a sports day at the GIB centre, located in the Šiška district of Ljubljana. There was many activities to enjoy, bouncing in the trampoline room, jumping and vaulting in the gymnastics area, playing ball games and testing their competitiveness with an introduction to Judo. Judging from the comments on the journey back to school, the students had a great time.

IMPORTANT NOTICES – Renovations, Warm Clothes, Police Request
RENOVATIONS
As part of Ljubljana’s energy efficiency renovation plan, our building II will require reconstruction work until the end of 2017. During this period there might be times when it will be difficult to enter school (other entrances might be used). We will also do our best to ensure that all lessons will be undisturbed and that safety is ensured. European Mobility Week – Dancing in the Community
On 22nd September, as part of European Mobility Week, all grades from the international department, along with some classes from the national dept., took a walk to a local residential area and had a line dance lesson. The theme of 2017 mobility week is clean, shared and intelligent mobility. To start proceedings, the school’s drums group gave a typical vivacious rendition of one of their compositions. This was followed by Ms Čepič captivating the students with her usual energy and enthusiasm for dancing to many popular songs of the day. The sun welcomed us too!

1M School Museum Visit
On Thursday, 21 September grade 1 students visited the School Museum in Ljubljana. They had a tour in which they saw how school looked like 100 years ago: barefooted students, wooden school bags and a tiny pencil case with no colours! In a reconstruction of a 100 year old classroom they also participated in a workshop where they created cuneiform on clay tablets. What a day!
MYP VISIT TO POSTOJNSKA JAMA CAVE AND PREDJAMSKI GRAD CASTLE
MYP students from Danila Kumar International School and Matija Gubec International School, Zagreb along with some students from the national department of Danila Kumar visited Postojnska Jama and Predjamski Grad. They were all fascinated by the natural and man made beauty on display and enjoyed meeting their fellow students despite the rainy weather.
The Social Event
On Thursday September 14th, DKIS had a social event to bring both new and returning members of our school community together. There were many fun activities to participate in such as dancing, an obstacle course, drumming, tug of war, and astronomy experiments amongst others. Besides the activities there was a small cultural programme that started off with a composition by the school’s drums group, followed by a song by the school’s choir. To wrap up a very nice event, all attendees partook in tea and apple strudel.

School Photos
All our grades will be photographed on Thursday, 21 September. The expenses for the photos are covered by the tuition fee. If you do not want that your child to be photographed for the group photos, you should inform the office by Monday, 18 September.
There will also be the possibility to order individual photos. All parents will be offered this service by the photographer.

Hiking Day – Rašica, MYP – CANCELLED
The MYP Rašica Hiking Day on 13th September has been cancelled due to weather conditions, and will be arranged at another time.
School “Uniforms”
We do not have school uniforms but we would like to encourage students to wear the school colours (bright blue tops and blue trousers or skirts).
This school year different types of shirts with school logos will be available in the school for very good prices. The items are being exhibited in building I, ground floor and parents and students can check and try them in the little shop in Building I, first floor (right from the stairs). read more…
The First Day of School
On Friday, the 1st of September, the 2017/18 school year began in the dome with an introduction by, first, Ms Irena Šteblaj, DKIS headmistress, then, Ms Mojca Mihelič, the headmistress of the whole School. They welcomed new students and parents to the school and the school’s community, along with those who are returning again. read more…
Construction Work at School
Two Cluster Workshops at Danila Kumar International School in Ljubljana
Danila Kumar International School hosted two ACES cluster Category 3 workshops: the PYP Inquiry and the MYP Understanding the MYP. Although it was very hot on 28 and 29 August in Ljubljana and the workshops were very long (10 45 minute sessions per day) as well as exhausting, they were also very productive.

First Day of School
The school year 2017/18 will start on Friday, 1 September 2017 with an opening ceremony at 10.00 in the dome of our school. Afterwards the students and their parents will be invited to their homerooms to get introductory instructions and information. All the activities will finish in approximately two hours.

Active Sports Days – GIB Centre
On Wednesday the 21st of June, all the PYP and MYP students that were actively involved in the Active days project were rewarded with a trip to the GIB centre. Students had different sport activities which they enjoyed a lot.
