Art & Dance Workshops
On Friday the 23rd of December, The PYP & MYP had Art & Dance Workshops. In the Art Workshops the students harnessed their creative talents to produce fantasy creatures, as well as colourful pictures representing each of the four seasons, In the Dance Workshops, the students warmed up with “Pass the Move”, then did the “All I want for Christmas is you” dance, followed by moving to Feliz Navidad and the Ariana Grande Christmas song.

Celebration of Slovenian Independence & Unity Day
On Friday the 23rd of December, there was a celebration of Slovenian Independence & Unity Day in the school auditorium delivered in both Slovenian & English. Slovenia’s rich & diverse cultural & natural heritage was presented, along with Slovenia’s impact on the world. The event also included vibrant performances from the school’s choirs. The Headmistress rounded things off with a warm speech in which she wished everyone a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

MYP Dance Sports Day
On Thursday, 22nd December, the MYP had a Dance Sports Day at Gospodarsko Razstavišče with 6th & 7th grades from the national dept.. The students were split into 3 groups, and each had the opportunity to try out Latino, Hip Hop & Break dancing. The students had great fun trying the diverse styles of dancing, and some of the teachers also!

PYP Music Cultural Day
On Monday, 19th of December our 1st-5th grade PYP students had a music cultural day. They made their own instruments and notes from pastry, played cup songs and had cajón workshops with Mr. Jaka Strajnar.

8m & 8i Tea Party with Poetry
On Monday, December 19, 8m and 8i students celebrated the end of their unit on Shakespeare. They created sonnets and recited them proudly to their peers and parents. They also enjoyed tea, biscuits and the jolly pre-Christmas spirit.

DKIS PERFORMING IN FRONT OF LJUBLJANA TOWN HALL
The DKIS choir performed together with the choir from the national department of Danila Kumar in front of the town hall in the centre of Ljubljana. There were many spectators who were very excited and pleased with the energetic and excellent performance of our students.

MYP Cluster Workshop at DKIS
From the 8-9th December Danila Kumar International School in Ljubljana hosted a Language Acquisition cluster workshop for teachers, which was led by IB workshop leader Eleni Vasileiou. The teachers whowere took part in the workshop came from 5 different countries: Slovenia, Croatia, Austria, Czech Republic and Slovakia. The programme focused on constructivist and concept based learning, and involved many activities where teachers could deepen their understanding and gather information about IB philosophy and assessment and planning in the language acquisition framework. The workshop proved to be an informative, stimulating, and enriching experience for all the teachers, as it emphasised a life-long learning approach to teaching and learning languages.

Costa Rica Animal Rescue Centre Volunteer Visit
On Tuesday, December 6th, grade 5 students had a special guest during their regular UOI lesson. We hosted a volunteer from Slovenia, who was working in an Animal Rescue Centre in Costa Rica. He presented the purpose of the centre, different animals and their stories, pictures and videos. The students were very excited, but also very empathetic and sad about the life stories of some of the animals.

Our Choir Performance in Front of Ljubljana City Hall
As the holidays are nearly upon us, our Danila Kumar Joint School Choir will perform in front of Ljubljana City Hall (address: Mestni trg 1, 1000 Ljubljana) on Wednesday, 14th of December, at 18.00. They will sing some merry holiday songs.
All members of our school community are kindly invited to attend the performance.
Fundraising for the Dome
The number of students enrolled in our school is rising every year and our indoor gymnasiums are becoming too constricted. Considering that students need sufficient physical activity in all seasons, we decided to cover the outdoor football field. The sports tent has been in use since this autumn; as part of our regular PE classes, extracurricular activities and for the Danila Kumar Soccer Academy training. Since the temperature inside the dome significantly drops in the winter months, we have decided to begin fundraising.

PYP Evaluation Visit
On Friday, 2 December 2016 the regular PYP evaluation visit at our school was completed. Two IB PYP evaluators thoroughly checked our documents, procedures, policies, facilities, observed lessons and interviewed our students, teachers, parents, board members and administrators.They commended our programme, specifically our excellent collaborative inquiry work in classrooms, our facilities and resources, our well trained and dedicated teachers and especially our active, knowledgeable, open minded students. read more…

The World Scholar’s Cup – Tournament of Champions 2016 at YALE
Twelve of our students and two of their coaches, Mr Klemen Strmljan and Ms Petra Cerar participated at the prestigious World Scholar’s Cup Tournament of Champions hosted by the Yale International Relations Association at Yale University in Connecticut, USA from November 18–22. The delegates from Slovenia competed against 700 of the best students from more than 50 countries around the world.
