Beyond languages – MYP cultural day
Students enjoyed their Wednesday, 20th a lot! They were preparing Slovene, German and French dishes, sang songs, and did a little bit of acting in foreign languages. Definitely a day to remember, and repeat! read more…
Mini Planica
On the 20th December 2017, PYP students and some students who train soccer at our school participated in an animation of ski-jumping. After putting on helmets and skis they slid down the mini ski-jump just like real ski jumpers. While some landed on their bottoms, others managed to land safely on two feet. Sara Isaković Presentation
On Friday, 15th December, Sara Isaković, an Olympic swimmer, came to the school to give a presentation on the elements and the benefits of Mindfulness. The students were thoroughly interested and engaged in the topic, and Ms Isaković showed the students her Olympic Silver medal. read more…
MYP Dance Sports Day
On Thursday, 14th December, our MYP students had a dance sports day. They learnt some new dance styles and most of them showed a positive attitude and had fun.
Visit to the Russian Centre/Russian Culture Workshop
Students form grade 2 of the International department as well as grade 3 from the National department, with their mentors, visited the Russian Centre in the city centre on December 6th. We were greeted with Russian culture in song. An established opera singer sang for us, as well as girls who are taking vocal lessons. read more…
PYP STUDENTS AND SANTA CLAUS
On Wednesday the 12th of December, the PTA organised a visit from Santa Claus who delivered presents to all the PYP students. All the students enjoyed their time with him and his helpers.
5M Ljubljana Zoo Visit
On Friday, 8th December, 5M students visited the ZOO in Ljubljana. Despite the occasional light rain, they enjoyed the visit and saw many endangered and threatened animals. The students also had the opportunity to stroke some endangered animals and learn some new facts about their habitat, threats, eating habits etc.
1M Adventure Challenge Games
1M students had adventure challenge sports day on Friday, December 8th. They played strategic cooperation games in the gym, some trust games and relay races, together with 1D from the national department, in the dome, and tried some relaxation techniques in the classroom. We had a great time!

Kindergarten Cultural Day
K1 & K2 children went to the Animated Film Festival on the 4th December 2017 at Kinodvor, and enjoyed the films that played very much.

NEW YEAR CHARITY FAIR – Help Our Schoolmates
On Thursday, 23 November, this New Year’s HELP OUR SCHOOLMATES charity fair took place at Danila Kumar Elementary School. The event was held in the dome over the sports field. Students, together with their mentor teachers especially created an artistic programme and exhibition of their own artwork which were available for donations. There were many sweet things that were donated on offer too!
Amongst additional highlights were the auction of sports equipment and the cultural programme, which included musicians and singers.
All funds raised will be used to help underprivileged students, and provide the possibility for such students to participate in activities such as field trips and excursions. Donations can also be made to a special school bank account SI56 0126 1603 0662 176, reference to 00 763100 (Pomoč sošolcu).

2M Cultural Day – Polhov Gradec
On Wednesday, 22nd Novemeber, 2.m students had a cultural day. They visited the museum of post and telecommunication in Polhov Gradec and learnt some new things about how people communicated in the past.

NEW YEAR CHARITY FAIR
Thursday, 23 November
From 17.00 – 18.30
We invite you to this New Year’s HELP OUR SCHOOLMATES charity fair on Thursday, 23 November 2017, at Danila Kumar Elementary School.
The event will begin at 5 pm in the dome over the sports field with the fair (till 7 pm). There will also be an auction of sports equipment at 5.30 pm and a cultural programme at 6 pm.
We warmly welcome you to join our joyful occasion!
In addition, we will have a Lost & Found area, as well as a stall where you will be able to purchase t-shirts and hats with the school logo on them. These will be located at the entrance to building II (reception area), and open from 4 pm.

Encouraging Our Students to Appreciate Food
We all want our children to eat healthy meals but do we strive to raise our children so that they appreciate food?
That was a concluding thought of our Food Committee, which met in October and discussed our school meals.
Quite a lot of our students are picky and do not eat real, healthy food. Nutritious foods in adequate amounts are essential for everyone but particularly for children. In childhood, adequate nutrition can ensure healthy growth, proper organ formation and function, a strong immune system, and neurological and cognitive development. Children who are poorly nourished suffer up to 160 days of illness each year. All these facts tell us about the importance of regular and healthy nutrition of our students in order to develop physically, mentally and academically.

MERRY DECEMBER IN DANILA KUMAR SOCCER ACADEMY
As a part of its activities Danila Kumar soccer academy invites all members and their families to a fun event and matches on Saturday, 9th December. The event will be organised in Danila Kumar School, in the big gymnasium. The entrance directly to the gymnasium is from Rodičeva Street.

10.15 – 11.30: Friendly matches

FRENCH THEATRE & STORYTELLING
On 16th of November French learners were visited by a drama pedagogue Maša Jazbec who narrated French stories through movement, puppets and drama. The workshop convinced us that with imagination there is always a way to understand each other. Thank you L’institute Francais for making this event possible!
