2M Drama & Art Presentation


On Friday, 16th February, the 2M students welcomed their parents to a performance of their group drama plays, and also a showing of their artwork. The Parents were enthralled and captivated by the plays, in which students presented the theme of friendship and art. Following the drama performances, parents had the opportunity to, not only see their own children’s artwork, but that of their classmates as well, in a gallery walk around the classroom. Guest Speaker – 3M


On Thursday, 15 Febraury, we had a guest speaker in grade 3. Mrs Van Baaren introduced her work, and discussed design and the environment with students. We all enjoyed her visit very much. Thank you.

6M Winter Field Trip – Kope, Day 4


On the last day we enjoyed the sunny skiing slopes. After lunch the students were divided in groups again and had a lot of fun on the snow. After dinner we had one more crazy dance party. Kope will stay in our hearts! See you tomorrow in Ljubljana.

4M Science day – Sound


On Thursday, February 15th, grade 4 had a science day. It was connected to our unit about Energy. We conducted different sound experiments and tried our best to prove that sound is a type of energy made by vibrations, and that sound travels differently through a solid object than through gas or water. Students learnt a lot and had a lot of fun.

In the morning the sun was waiting for us. The wind had ceased, so skiing was fantastic. After lunch we had some sport activities. We finished the day with night skiing.

6M Winter Field Trip – Kope, Day 2


We woke up on a snowy morning. During skiing we had some trouble with the wind, nevertheless we had a lot of fun. After lunch and an afternoon nap, we had different activities (cross country skiing, different games on the snow and a short lesson on FIS rules). We completed our day at the disco, where we danced in our masks.

6M Winter Field Trip – Kope, Day 1


On Monday, 12 February, we arrived in Kope and settled in our rooms. Lunch was already waiting for us. After lunch we went to the ski slope and practiced some turns on the newly fallen snow. In the evening we went for a night walk.

“Zmajev karneval” – The Dragon’s Carnival


On Saturday, 10 February, the students of Danila Kumar participated in Zmajev karneval – the Dragon’s Carnival in the centre of Ljubljana. This event, organised by the City of Ljubljana,  was part of the Pust celebrations, the farewell to winter, although, it was still quite cold and there was a lot of snow. There was a festive, joyful atmosphere, and a lot of “pustni krofi” – traditional Slovenian carnival doughnuts.

PYP Winter Sports Day


On Wednesday, 7th February, the PYP students had a winter sports day. However, it took place a little bit more closer to home than expected, as it was deemed appropriate not to make the journey to Jezersko, due to the snowfall during the night as well as the continuing snowfall during the day. So, in the nearby playground, students went sledging, tried cross country skiing, and made sculptures in the snow, amongst other activities. Much fun was had. read more…

MYP Winter Sports Day


On Tuesday, 6th February, the MYP students had their winter sports day in Jezersko in the north of Slovenia. As well as the appreciation of the stunning views, sledging, cross country skiing and cooperation games were also on offer. WSC LJUBLJANA ROUND


This weekend (on Saturday, 3rd and Sunday, 4th of February) our school hosted the WSC Ljubljana Round. There were 408 students form 33 schools and three countries (besides Slovenia, also Austria and Serbia) taking part in the competition. Our students did really well! Congratulations to the WSC mentors, our students and the 50 members of staff who helped organising the event. Results to follow soon. read more…

MYP STUDENTS’ CULTURAL DAY AT THE SLOVENIAN ETHNOGRAPHIC MUSEUM

On Friday, 2nd February, the students of 6M, 7M, 7I and 8M went to the Slovenian Ethnographic Museum for a guided tour around the temporary exhibition Afghanistan – Slovene Views. Students learnt about Afghanistan’s rich cultural history and heritage as well as the changes that followed decades of conflict. Students also enjoyed the weaving workshop, in which they created unique pieces of work.

2M Cultural Day – The National Gallery


On Wednesday, 31st January, the students of 2M went to the National Gallery for a guided tour. Beforehand, they were reminded to be quiet, and to not touch anything, so as not to awake Gal the dwarf, who, if awoken, might get very angry. During the tour, The students learnt about many stories behind the works of art: Stories including Castles, princesses, unicorns and dragons. All attendees were thoroughly intrigued and enlightened by their National Gallery experience. read more…

5M Cultural Day – Stress


On Monday, 30th January, 5M students had a cultural day in school.
Their work was focused on analysing how MYP students deal with stress, the consequences, and what they do to deal with it. The students worked hard, enjoyed the day, had fun and learnt a lot.

RECEPTION AT MINISTRY OF EDUCATION, SCIENCE AND SPORT


On Monday, 29th January, the Minister of Education, Science and Sport, Dr. Maja Makovec Brenčič held a reception to honor students who achieved outstanding results at international competitions in the year 2017. We are proud that five of our students, and former students, who took part in the Global round Hanoi and/or Tournament of Champions at Yale were invited to attend the ceremony at Congress Centre, Brdo, Kranj.

National Handwriting Day


January 23rd was National Handwriting Day. Students from grades 2M to 5M marked this day with a short workshop on the importance of handwriting. Two representatives from The Slovenian International Ladies’ Association (SILA) participated in the workshop and shared with us some specifics of learning and using the French alphabet. The students practised the correct posture for writing, learnt a useful trick for holding a pen correctly and created a poster on which they wrote a short greeting in their respective languages. The workshop made us appreciate the role handwriting has in the cultural diversity of our community and in the uniqueness of each individual. read more…

Portfolio Night


On Thursday, 18th January, DKIS welcomed parents and family members to Portfolio Night: A chance for students to share their best pieces of work they have produced over the first term with their families and give a greater insight into how the PYP and MYP programmes work. Students were eager to show what they had accomplished up to now, and parents alike delighted in seeing their children’s progress. A very interesting, thought provoking and enlightening way for parents to share in their children’s success.
