Mission & Philosophy Statement

The International Department at Danila Kumar International School was founded to facilitate the lives of foreign families in Slovenia by offering two reputable International Baccalaureate programmes: The Primary Years and the Middle Years Programme (first three years). We offer a high quality education that stimulates lifelong learning, develops skills and globally relevant concepts, generates good learning habits and promotes positive attitudes.
Within these programmes we offer a comprehensive, inquiry-based and student-centred approach to teaching and learning. We focus on the total growth of the developing child – intellectual, physical, emotional and social, which we monitor and scaffold with rigorous and holistic assessment.
Beyond intellectual rigour and high academic standards, strong emphasis is placed on the ideas of intercultural understanding and respect, responsible communication and citizenship, as well as cooperation with schools and institutions both in Slovenia and abroad in order to create a better and more peaceful world.

Working together with the IBO

Danila Kumar International School is one of more than 3,665 schools in 146  countries around the world, that are members of the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO), a non-profit educational foundation based in Switzerland that works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education with rigorous assessment.

The IBO offers the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for students aged 3 to 12 years, Middle Years Programme (MYP) for students in the 11 to 16 year age range, and its Diploma Programme for students in the final two years of secondary school preparing for entry to university.

Teaching and Learning

The teachers at Danila Kumar are very cognisant of the philosophy promoted by the IBO. Teachers regularly attend training conferences organised by the IBO and the European Council of International Schools (ECIS) to learn about new learning systems and class management techniques.

At Danila Kumar, competency and learning in English is further reinforced by the inclusion of a full-time native-English speaking Language Assistant, who collaborates with the specialist teaching staff to encourage and develop fluency and accuracy of the students’ use of English. In addition, parents of students at Danila Kumar, are active in co-operating with the school through extra activities such as reading lessons and through the Parent Teacher Association.

The aim of the IBO programmes is to help students develop attributes that characterise successful learners. These globally-minded young people are:
