4M Art

The pupils of 4m created symbols for school activities. They have been developing their values & beliefs through art in the last two weeks.

5M Art

The pupils of 5m have been exploring pre-historic art. Their tasks were to create reliefs in salt dough or to paint a cave painting of a landscape.

8M & 8I Art

The pupils of 8m and 8I reflected on Curatorship, exploring the work of the curator and their relationship with artists and business in the art world. Here are some of their best ideas, inspirations, conclusions:

‘To conclude, I would like to say that this is really a bigger world than I expected and has much more complex things going on. I don’t have a bad impression of this but, I do think that the cycle (relationship between artist and gallery and the quality of work as well as reputation of the gallery) is very good. As well as the gallery business being a great idea. Overall, it is a great experience to have.’

Rushwi Arelli, 8m

‘The most important thing about funding is that it symbolises the faith people put in art and the creativity of the artist when they support them. ‘

Bener Tulgar, 8I

‘I remember the first day when I held a pencil and started drawing, I thought art was just drawing until I made a deeper step into the Art world and I observed that the art world doesn’t have endings.’

Bertug Ozata 8M

If you take the term media art literally, all art is media art. After all, each artwork must have a vehicle, such as a piece of paper, a block of marble, or a video tape. Even if you have an idea, and wish to see that as an artwork, you must communicate that to your audience in one manner or another, so that an audience can recognise it as an artwork.

Daria Radulovič, 8M

The word curator comes from Latin meaning: taking care of. Today curators do much more than that. They are art researchers, they show the results of their research through exhibitions.

Luka Higonet 8I

The pupils of 7i were practicing their drawing skills through the medium of still lifes.

7M Art

The students of 7m have been practicing their drawing skills through quick sketches of the human body/Croquis.

A Message for the Weekend

Dear Parents,

It is inspiring to see the spirit of our students who dedicate a lot of time and effort to online learning. Our students and teachers are unified in their commitment to continuing the school year to one of a high quality standard, with their creativity, relevant work and active participation.

We have already introduced video conferencing in the MYP this week, next week we will introduce video conferencing in the PYP too via zoom, first for the homeroom lessons, followed by sessions on Thursday and Friday from 09:00 am to 10:00 am, when the PYP homeroom teachers will be available for any extra explanation or questions about school work.

The second week of isolation is coming to an end, up until now I have not received any news about anybody becoming infected or ill in our school community. Parents, thank you for your commitment to keeping your families and our community safe and healthy.

Some ideas for indoor activities during the weekend:

  • Have a tea party (with poetry reading)
  • Draw or paint the view from your window
  • Play card and board games
  • Make a family tree
  • Plan a 7 Day Self Care Challenge
  • Start a hand drawn collection of ornaments

Stay home! Have a safe and relaxing weekend!

A Message for Parents

Dear parents,

Our school has decided not to charge any tuition fees for the Kindergarten and Afternoon Programme from 16 March until we open our school again, however, we will continue offering the online programme for both, the Kindergarten and the AP programmes.

I would like to thank many parents for their suggestions and ideas on how to improve the online learning process. To make our programme easier, more interesting and various, collapsed days online will be introduced, offering less streamlined and demanding activities. Some video conferences have already been held. We are also organising extra support for students who have organisational problems, or cannot cope with the academic part of the curriculum.

Although no news is better than bad news, I would like to remind you that you must inform us if you become infected by highly transmissible and dangerous illnesses, as we have an obligation to inform our school community about this.

Fortunately, I have not received any information about anybody from our whole school community becoming infected and ill. I hope it stays this way!

Some ideas for creative non-screen activities with your children:

  • Start a nature journal
  • Make a pretend cooking show
  • Create natural paints from spices or mud and create art masterpieces with them
  • Look through old family photos and share stories about them
  • Make homemade cards
  • Go on a (insect, toy, object) hunt
  • Make playdough (add spices for colour and smell)
  • Draw an outline of each family member and decorate them.
  • Build a fairy garden, a farm, a zoo with recycled and natural materials and toys
  • Build a doll’s house from recycled boxes

I wish you a safe and pleasant day!

Kind regards,

Irena Steblaj

Message for Parents

Dear parents,

Hopefully you and your children are coping well with life in isolation. I have been in contact with our colleagues and friends from Matija Gubca International School in Zagreb. Our teachers and the MYP students have cooperated several times with their students in many activities in recent years. In the last school year they visited The Tesla Museum in Zagreb together. They are fine, but very scared, following last Sunday’s earthquakes, which could cause an even bigger risk of infection.

Fortunately, I have not received any reports about anybody becoming infected or ill in our school community up until now.

The Making Thinking Visible Chart (Project Zero, Harvard University) may help you to support your child’s online learning.
Keep safe!

Best wishes,

Irena Steblaj

A Message for Parents

Dear parents,

Some of our parents and other family members are working so hard during the coronavirus pandemic in health and social care, key public services, public safety and utilities, communication, food production, distribution, shops and many other necessary services.

An enormous thank you to them for their sacrifice, their work is highly valued and we are very grateful to them!

There are no reports about any of our school community being infected or becoming ill so far.

There is no greater priority for me and our teachers than the safety and well-being of our school community.

As we have done for almost three decades, we continue with the best practices for this new mode of teaching, through planning engaging lessons and activities and arriving at all decisions with one driving consideration – the best interests of our students and of their growth and development. We will keep improving the online learning process; this week we will try introducing video conferences in upper classes to better support our students’ needs.

To help our entire community, stay informed of developments and follow the safety measures.

Should you have any questions or concerns, I and our teachers are here to support you.

Second Week of Online Learning

Dear parents,

We are staring the second week of online learning. First of all, I would like to commend our students. All our initial expectations were exceeded. Our students did really well during the first, very challenging week, of online learning. The reports from our teachers and the students’ work displays their effort, dedication and responsibility. Observation of the students’ work shows a lot of knowledge/understanding and elevated thinking skills. Their creativity has no limits.
I am very grateful, too, that there have not been any reports of anybody being infected up until now.
We do not know how long this situation will last. We cannot control it, we cannot control what others do or think about it. But we can contribute and have a positive influence by following all preventive measures and being disciplined and responsible, with our optimistic attitude, kindness and support for one another.
The list below may help your child organise their learning more effectively.

A check list for more effective learning:
  • I have a designated  earning space in my house.
  • I read instructions carefully and seek help and support if needed.
  • I read the feedback I get from teachers and take the appropriate action.
  • I demonstrate ethical behaviour and practice.
  • I regularly start working on time, work persistently and finish my schoolwork by the deadline/s.
  • I look after my health (exercise, sleep enough, have a healthy diet, relax) and the health of people around me – I do not contribute to stressful atmosphere with my behaviour.
Stay at home. If not necessary, avoid going to places where there are other people. Protect the health of your family.

Best wishes,

Irena Steblaj

A Message for Parents

Dear parents,

I am very happy and grateful to report that I have not received any information about anybody being infected by coronavirus in our school community as yet.

Let’s follow all instructions for prevention, especially social isolation and think of safety and a healthy lifestyle.

Our teachers and I have received a lot of supportive and positive messages in the last few days. Furthermore, I hope that parents who expressed concerns understand that it is very important to be actively and responsibly involved in the online learning, which is quite challenging for some students at the moment, but, in the long term, crucial for their future.  We want to support families to raise resilient and confident children.

I am monitoring students’ work all the time and it gives me great joy to see their dedication and good results. Our teachers are very satisfied with their response, it is in fact much better than we expected, when we initially planned the online learning process. It seems that because of the restrictions of public gathering the closing of schools might last for a fairly elongated period.

As the online learning process appears to be functioning well, we will continue in the same way next week. Many families have to share a computer or only a few computers for work and school work and we have families with many members, so video conferences would probably not be feasible.

There are some ideas for weekend family cultural events online below.  Our PE and AP teachers keep sending ideas for promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. Join your children when they exercise or dance.

Have a pleasant and safe weekend!

Best wishes,

A Message for Parents

Dear parents,

I have been receiving a lot of positive feedback from parents and our teachers, but also some e-mails from parents who think that their children are under great stress because of the workload of online learning.

I STRONGLY BELIEVE that being active and working hard is much healthier and productive than procrastinating, lazing around and having too much time for worry and self pity. It is important that children are busy, and show responsibility and agency, especially in the situation we are in at present. Postponing work and stressing about the situation will not do them any good. It will be very difficult for them to catch up with their school work later and, consequently, it will be even more stressful.
These are difficult times for everyone, but our students will get used to working on their own efficiently very quickly, and it will be a very good learning experience for them.
Our students work very hard in school. They have from five to seven lessons plus homework almost every day. In school, teachers pace the lessons accordingly and encourage them. Of course, it is more difficult for them now because they have to learn to do everything on their own, but children adapt very quickly. Being persistent and organising productive activities at home is a very good investment for the future.
Our team takes this situation very seriously; we want to offer our students the same quality programmes as they get when in our school building.  We want to make certain that this interruption of regular school processes and practices will not affect our students’ final results and that all of them will finish this school year successfully and on time.
Be assured that our team is available to help and support your child/ren through online learning. If you and your child/ren need any help or have any questions, we are there for you.

Tremendous thanks for your help and support!

Think of safety and stay in good spirits.

Best wishes,

Irena Steblaj

Updates, Including Tuition Fees

Dear Parents,

I hope all of you are well, safe and healthy. I am in contact with our teachers constantly and I am happy that the online learning is working well. Teachers are regularly giving feedback to students and informing their parents when students are not punctual or thorough enough with their work.

Our school has decided to reduce the tuition fees for the period of online learning. As you have already received the invoices for March, we will deduct the March difference from the April tuition fees.

A Message from the Headmistress

Dear parents,

I hope you are healthy. We have not received any information about the virus infecting anyone within our school community as yet. Let’s hope it stays this way.
According to the feedback from teachers and some parents who contacted us, the online learning has stared well. Most of our students completed all their work yesterday, and as expected, only a few students, who usually need more encouragement and support have not completed their work thus far. Our teachers will contact parents individually.  There were also a few students who had technical problems (computers, traveling,..), but we will try to be as flexible as possible in supporting them.
I am really proud that the majority of our students showed responsibility and agency, as this is most important at the moment.
All parents should encourage their children to use time efficiently, not procrastinate and also to be helpful at home. These are very difficult times and everybody should contribute as best they can according to their abilities and opportunities.
Remember to be physical active, as you all have to stay fit, and boost your immunity and general physical condition.
PLEASE FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREVENTIVE MEASURES AND SOCIAL ISOLATION.
Following a suggestion of one of our international parents, the school will be organising the delivery of hot meals to our underprivileged students with the help of volunteers.
For this purpose we opened an account for donations:
namen : POMOČ DRUŽINAM
sklic : 00 763104
TRR : SI56 01261 6030662176
Give my love to your children.

Online Learning

Dear parents,

You and your child/ren have received the instructions for online learning. Please support and encourage them to be actively and responsibly involved in the process of learning.
Please let me (irena.steblaj@guest.arnes.si) know if you or your child/ren have any problems.
You can contact all of our teachers by e-mail (http://en.os-danilekumar.si/contacts/) if you have any questions or concerns.
If you have problems understanding the English instructions use Google translate (https://translate.google.com), or for Russian (https://translate.yandex.ru/?utm_source=wizard)
As the students will spend a lot of time at computers, I recommend that you limit their screen time in their spare time. For young children the blue light from screens is very damaging for the eyes and brain (digital dementia) and it impairs sleep. The time of social isolation is an opportunity for family activities: cooking, baking and cleaning together, gardening, walks and sports activities in the countryside (but keep distance from other people). Children should play with toys, blocks, play social games, draw, colour, solve puzzles, crosswords, riddles, make handicrafts, read, keep diaries, dance, exercise and practice neat handwriting or calligraphy amongst other things.
The PYP students will not have Computer Skills lessons as they will do most of their work on computers anyway.
In case you or your child/ren are anxious, afraid or feel stressed by the current situation, please contact our councillor Ms Maja Majnik (majnikm@os-danilekumar.si).
If you urgently need any documents, contact our secretary Ms Maya Fuerst (fuerstm@os-danilekumar.si).
Follow all preventive measures. Social isolation is especially important, so avoid any socialising and crowds.
Stay healthy and in good spirits.
Kind regards,
Irena Steblaj

EMERGENCY DAY CARE, KG1 – 5M Students

Dear Parents,

For children whose parents both work in jobs which are important for state services in emergency situations (workers in health institutions, the army, police, public protection), emergency day care will be organised. Parents will have to provide certificates from their employers. The child/ren must be healthy and must not show any signs of infection.
If both parents meet the requirements, they can register their child/ren at ravnatelj@os-danilekumar.si at least 24 hours before they need day care.  With the application they must provide the certificates from their employers and indicate the hour of arrival and departure of the child/ren.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE

Dear parents,

On Monday we will contact you about, and start, with online learning. You or your children (according to their age) will get links to platforms and/or e-mails you will be able to communicate with.
Students will be given different learning tasks on a regular basis – everyday, according to their regular timetable.
All their work will be monitored and considered equal to their work at regular lessons.
Students should be responsible and do their work regularly.
The online learning students will do at home will be recognised in the same way as their presence and learning in school.
Those who do not finish the assignments will have to do extra lessons when regular lessons start again.
I would like to ask you to inform us if anybody from your family tests positive for coronavirus.
As yet, we have not had any reported cases in our school community. However, It is important that you follow all preventive measures at home, too.
We will keep you informed about all the latest developments.
I am very happy to report that our students have been very affectionate and supportive in the last few days, I also have to commend our dedicated teachers, who have been, and continue to be, very helpful and caring.

Irena Steblaj

IMPORTANT MESSAGE

Dear parents,

You have probably already heard that all schools will be closed from Monday on for 14 days in Slovenia.
I recommend that you keep your children home tomorrow, too, although our staff will be in the school.
We have already started organising possibilities for online learning, so we hope we will be able to continue with our school year even if our facilities are closed.

Today we are organising many activities outside. Students are fine and in good spirits.

Please make sure that they spend a lot of time outside, sleep enough and have healthy nutrition in the coming weeks. Avoid crowds, shopping centres and restaurants/bars.

Keep safe and healthy!
Best wishes,

Irena Steblaj

Additional Measures

Dear parents,
I would like to inform you about new measures to prevent the spreading of coronavirus:

1. Students will be able to enter our school only through the main entrance.
2. Only Kindergarten parents will be able to take students to their classroom. Grade 1 students will be taken to their classroom by our teachers on duty.
3. We suggest that parents wait for their children outside and not in the closed waiting area.
4. All individual interviews are cancelled. We ask parents to contact teachers by e-mail.
5. We recommend that children do not socialise in their spare time.
6. Please do not send children with any signs of infection to school. If we notice any suspicious signs of illness we will send students home immediately.
7. We will not accept any visitors until the situation with coronavirus improves.

Kind regards,
Irena Šteblaj
