A Message Regarding Student Agency

Dear parents,

We are privileged to have had the conditions to implement remote learning in the current crisis, however, being housebound for our students requires displaying all the skills we teachers long for them to develop. Among these skills is student agency―the responsibility for a student’s own learning that empowers them to fully govern their learning experience. Content is just a vehicle to build the skills and attributes we wish to foster in our students. Developing these skills and attributes ensures that students will thrive in a world where change is constant and learning never stops.

In times of change there is opportunity for responsibility, productivity and creativity, the opportunity to develop confidence to try new strategies and explore new concepts and contexts for learning, and the opportunity for responsible participation. Students should be thinkers and reflective and take this time to better understand their strengths and weaknesses in order to support their learning and personal development.

And, furthermore, because you are more actively involved in the learning process now, you have a better understanding of your child’s needs and abilities.

IMPORTANT

If the MYP students are late with their work and complete their task one week after the deadline, our teachers will still accept it and asses it, nevertheless, the student must advise teachers of the situation. The teachers are very busy monitoring and assessing student work, and checking tasks from previous weeks on OneNote is very time consuming.

Best wishes,

MYP Cultural Day – Alice in Wonderland

On Thursday, 2 April, with the guiding hand of Ms Tina Hauptman, The MYP was brought to life with a cultural day devoted to Alice in Wonderland, in which the pupils read the eminent story and watched a presentation through the graceful art of Ballet. The pupils were then given the task of creating alternative endings to the story, with accompanying illustrations. Take a look at some of the concepts in the gallery below.

A Message about Video Conferencing

Dear parents,

The PYP students and/or parents have been invited to join the online Teams platform and have received the instructions on how to gain access to their online classrooms, hitherto.

If you have further questions or issues, please address them to our IT Support, Benjamin Magnay at magnayb@os-danilekumar.si

Our PYP teachers will give instructions and discuss questions via video conferences with students every day.

Teams video conferences were introduced in the MYP programme last week. Our team will try to organise more video conferencing at various subjects to scaffold the learning process.

I have received very good feedback about the participation of our students. Most of them complete their work regularly, very well and on time. There are only a few students who need to be reminded about their work. If they complete tasks one week after the deadline our teachers will still accept it and asses it.

Please let me know if your child still needs help with the completion of their work, either because of organisational, emotional or cognitive problems, and we will organise some extra help for them.

I hope you are all well and healthy. I have not received any information about any member of our school community being infected and ill. I hope it stays that way.

Best wishes,

Irena Šteblaj
